    The First World War is the first entirely new comprehensive documentary series on the Great War for 40 years. Based on the book by Hew Strachan, Emmy Award-winning Series Producer Jonathan Lewis uses fresh research and extraordinary archive film to tell the story of the war that shaped the twentieth century.

    The soundtrack CD includes the series title music by the recently rediscovered Scottish composer Cecil Coles, who died aged 29 in the trenches at the Somme in 1918.
Orlando Gough is a distinguished composer of music for opera, theatre, dance, film and television. The CD booklet includes authentic autochrome stills (early colour photographs) from the war years. First released in 2003 on First Name Soundtracks.
